Readers! This isn’t my regular sort of post, but since there was no story yesterday, I’ll be posting this Dungeons and Dragons concept alongside a regular post today. I hope some of you enjoy it.
The Soulcarver
You have learned to tune your gaze to see beyond the physical realm, allowing you to strike at the very souls of other beings. You can spot the flaws and vulnerabilities of souls, as well as the misalignments to the soul caused by damage done to a being’s physical body.
Soul Gaze
Beginning when you choose this archetype at the 3rd level, you gain the ability to gaze upon, and strike at, a being’s soul.
When you make the attack action, you may activate your soul gaze. If you do, when you roll to attack, you apply your Wisdom modifier to your attack and damage rolls, rather than your Strength or Dexterity modifier. Rather than the target’s AC, use 10 + the targets Wisdom modifier to determine whether your attack hits. When attacking this way, your weapon or unarmed strike deals psychic damage instead of any other damage types it would deal.
You may use this ability once or a number of times equal to twice your Wisdom modifier, whichever is greater. You regain one use of this when you finish a short rest. You regain all uses of this when you finish a long rest.
Soul Adjustment
When you reach 7th level, you can choose to repair a soul you strike using your soul gaze, rather than harm it.
When making an attack that utilizes your soul gaze, you make cause your blow to heal, rather than harm, when it strikes.
Savior
At the 10th level, your awareness of the state of the souls of your allies drives you to aid them.
Whenever you use an attack action to deal damage while using your soul gaze, you may use a bonus action to use an additional use of your soul gaze to strike at an ally within range using your soul adjustment technique. The attack from your bonus action must be used to heal.
Reshape the Soul
At 15th level, your mastery of your soul gaze allows you to tune your attacks so finely they can temporarily change the shape of a being’s soul.
When you strike a being with an attack while utilizing your soul gaze, you may choose to temporarily reduce or improve one of its attributes by the amount that you roll, rather than affecting that being’s hit points. When doing so, roll a d4 rather than your weapon’s regular damage die.
Attributes increased or decreased in this way move back toward their base total at a point of one point per ten minutes. Attributes increased above 20 in this way decrease at a rate of 1 per minute, and cannot be raised above 24 in this way.
When a being’s Strength or Constitution is reduced to 0, that being dies. When a being’s Dexterity is reduced to 0, that creature becomes paralyzed until its ability score becomes at least 1. When a being’s Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is reduced to 0, that creature becomes stunned until that ability score becomes at least 1.
You may use this ability once. You regain all uses of this ability after a short rest.
Perfected Gaze
Upon reaching 18th level, your mastery of your strikes made under your Soul Gaze drastically improves.
When using your soul gaze, the critical hit range of your attacks increases by one. (It goes from 20 to 19-20, or from 19 or 20 to 18-20, if it’s already been improved by another effect.)
Additionally, whenever you score a critical hit while using your soul gaze, you regain two uses of the ability.

Soulcarver Feats
In addition to the martial archetype features above, there are several feats that require having chosen the Soulcarver archetype as a prerequisite. If you would gain the Ability Score Improvement feature, you may instead choose one of the following.

Soul Resonance
Prerequisites: Soulcarver Martial Archetype
Your Wisdom increases by 1, to a maximum of 20.
Whenever you strike a blow while using your soul gaze, you recover a number of hit points equal to 1d4 + your Wisdom modifier.

Strength of Body, Strength of Soul

You may add your Wisdom modifier to your attack rolls.
You may add your Strength modifier to your attack rolls made while utilizing your soul gaze feature.
